Gillion Academy Code of Conduct & Guiding Principles
1. Student-athletes are expected to show up to the Academy on time and ready to start training or schoolwork at the times established by the Academy staff.
2. Student-athletes will treat other Student-athletes, guests, coaches, trainers, speakers, employees, volunteers, staff, and players with respect and courtesy. Student-athletes shall conduct themselves in a way that will not disrespect, insult, harass, bully, abuse, threaten, or otherwise compromise the safety, participation, and enjoyment in Academy activities. We are a diverse family at the Academy that considers equity, diversity and inclusion as a guiding principle and expect all Student-athletes to abide by those same principles.
3. There is a Zero Tolerance policy on any fighting or improper touching of another student-athlete and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Fighting or harmful touching of another student-athlete could result in suspension or expulsion from the Academy.
4. Student-athletes will not use foul or derogatory language directed to any other student-athlete, Academy staff member, family member of a student-athlete, Academy guest, or in the presence of others even if not directed to any person.
5. No alcohol, cigarettes, cigars, vapes, chewing tobacco, drugs, or other tobacco products are permitted on the premises of The Academy, in the personal belongings of any Student-athlete, or at any event, program, scrimmage or game offsite involving the Academy. Any Student-athlete, Parent, or Guest that appears to be under the influence of any substance or drink will be immediately removed from the premises of the Academy.
6. Personal hygiene must be maintained, and Student-athletes must make every effort to take care of their bodies, their clothes and bring change of clothes daily. Sneakers, slides, sandals or similar shoes must be worn at all times and maintained clean and odor-free. Appropriate exercise clothing and shoes must be worn when using the facilities, including non-marking soled shoes in the gym. Tops must be worn at all times.
7. Student-athletes will show respect for the facility and all equipment. Student-athletes will place all trash in garbage cans, keep food out of the gym area, clean up after themselves and leave behind no food or drink items, wipe down equipment after use, return all balls and equipment to their original place when finished, not abuse or misuse any of the equipment, report any damaged or broken equipment immediately to the Academy staff, and report if any other Student-athlete is misusing, abusing or damaging any Academy property.
8. Student-athletes will observe all classroom rules and instruction from Academy staff. Student-athletes will not be disruptive to other Student-athletes, cause any distractions, or use their phones and computers for any activity other than schoolwork unless instructed to do so by Academy staff. Student-athletes are expected to get their schoolwork done in a timely and efficient matter and not disrupt the academic environment.
9. Student-athletes that do not complete their classes, homework, tests or projects in a timely manner based on deadlines set by their online education provider will be excluded from all Academy basketball activities until their work is completed and any overdue items are turned in to the satisfaction of the Academy staff. Student-athletes must also maintain a 3.00 or above grade point average to be eligible to continue to participate in Academy basketball programming. Academy staff also reserves the right to make any Student-athlete repeat any quizzes, tests, or assignments before participating in any basketball activities if they receive a grade below a 90%. Student -athletes may also be excluded from Academy basketball programming if they repeatedly violate the conditions of this paragraph.
10. The Academy will be considered a closed campus during Academy hours. Student-athletes will not be allowed to leave campus without a written request from a Parent explaining the reasons for early dismissal or leaving campus for any period of time. Any Student-athlete that leaves the facility during Academy hours without express permission from an Academy staff member will face disciplinary actions.
11. Student-athletes must come to the Academy fully prepared every day to complete their online education work and participate in basketball activities. For online academic work, each Student-athlete must bring their laptop, charger, headphones, writing utensils and notebooks, and any other items required by their online education provider. For basketball activities, each Student-athlete must bring proper athletic shoes, clothing, change of clothes, adequate water, lunch, snacks, and any medically prescribed equipment or gear. Failure to be properly prepared could result in Student-athlete being sent home or excluded from all daily activities.
12. Student-athletes are responsible for informing the appropriate Academy staff member if they see or learn that a fellow Student-athlete is involved in, has been involved in, or is planning any action that is or may be (1) harmful to the Student-athlete, another Student-athlete, or the Academy community; or (2) illegal or in violation of Academy’s codes, rules, or policies.
13. Disciplinary actions for violations of the Academy’s codes, rules or policies may include, at the discretion of the Academy staff, removal from any Academy activities, In-Academy detention, prohibition from participating in any basketball activities, suspension form the Academy for a period of time, or expulsion form the Academy. There are no tuition reductions, discounts, offsets, rebates or waivers for any time a Student-athlete misses due to violation of any Academy codes, rules or policies or disciplinary actions.
14. The policies, procedures, rules, and codes of behaviors state herein are subject to change solely within the discretion of the Academy staff without prior written notice to Student-athletes or their families.
